John I. Wallace was elected to office in 2011. With a background in law enforcement spanning 24 years, Sheriff Wallace had been named the Chief of Police in Madison, Indiana in 2008. Prior being named Chief, Wallace was a Detective for eight years. As Chief, Wallace resurrected the D.A.R.E Program, K9 Program, implemented Neighborhood Watches, expanded the bike patrols and developed a local Emergency Response Team.

Sheriff Wallace is committed to improving the Sheriff’s Department by providing additional training and equipping the Deputies with the equipment needed to make them successful, adding a full-time detective and creating community watch programs, thereby making for a safer community in Jefferson County.

Sheriff Wallace is married to Patti (Greene) Wallace and together the have three children, John Kristopher, James Kurtis, and Kelsi. Sheriff Wallace is a second generation law enforcement office, being that his father, Jack Wallace, had retired from the Madison Police Department with 20 years of service. While both son’s are also involved in law enforcement careers.
