Our guest will be Kirsten Carlson. Her presentation will be: Habitat Preservation of Pollinators: How you CAN help restore their populations.
Summary: Kirsten will present on the science to help understand the flower/pollination/fruit structural-functional relationships and their connection for you to create/adapt, design and maintain useful habitats for pollinators to help increase their populations.
Kirsten has a BS in Biology from Indiana University, MS is Secondary Science Education from Indiana University and MS Certification in Special Education from IU Southeast.
She taught high school biology, honors biology, inclusion biology, and AP biology from 2000 – 2010. Taught science and environmental science at the Madison Correctional Facility. She has been focusing the last eight years on working with schools and other groups to create pollinator habitats and tagging monarch butterflies. She has provided many workshops for teachers and presentations for others on creating pollinator/monarch habitats and support to the collection, rearing, and tagging monarchs. Kirsten has worked with individuals and groups to collect and stratify milkweed seed. Currently Kirsten is an adjunct faculty member in life sciences at IVY Tech Community College and a volunteer educator at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens and is a member of the Share Some Space for Pollinators in Jennings County.
