Genealogy Research Information
Our birth and death records here in Jefferson County Indiana start in 1882. In order for our office to do a search, a date of birth or date of death is required. If the record is located, we will in-turn forward the information contained in the record to you. If a certified copy of a birth certificate is needed - the charge is $10 each or if a certified copy of a death certificate is needed - the charge is $12 each. If a non-certified copy of a birth certificate (Genealogy Information Sheet) is needed - the charge is $5 each or if a non-certified copy of a death certificate (Genealogy Information Sheet) is needed - the charge is $5 each. Fees are payable by cash, personal check or money order to the Jefferson County Health Department.
Online Requests for Geneology
If you are currently doing Genealogy Research on Individuals who were born or died in Jefferson County Indiana, you can NOW process requests through an independent company that the Jefferson County Health Department has partnered with to provide you this service; Permitium’s VitalDirector – link: https://jeffersoninvitals.permitium.com/rod.
This NEW Online Service will allow applicants to complete an online order and also track their orders in real-time. This service will also allow for multiple shipping and pickup options.
Multiple Shipping options include: USPS; UPS; and FedEx. If you have selected to have your order shipped to you – payment must be in the form of Debit/Credit Cards. Convenience & Credit Card fees do apply.
In-Office Pickup Option: If you have selected to pick up your order at the Health Department Office – you will be notified when your order is ready for PICKUP. During the completion of your online order and you chose the “PAY AT COUNTER” option – this will allow you to make your payment here in the office when your order is ready for pickup (Cash, Check, or Money Orders ONLY).
If you wish to pay with a Debit/Credit Card you would need to choose the “CHECKOUT” option and provide your credit card information (Convenience & Credit Card fees do apply). Once your debit/credit card payment has been processed, you will be notified when your order is ready for PICKUP.
