Community Transition Program
The Community Transition Program (CTP) component is an early release program from the Indiana Department of Correction. The purpose of the program is to transition those who have been incarcerated for a period of time gradually into society. Those who are placed on the CTP program are placed on a GPS monitoring device during the entire CTP period.
Who is Eligible for CTP?
Level 5 or 6 Felony (formerly D or C Felony)
Individuals with a Level 5 or 6 Felony conviction or a D or C Felony are automatically released to CTP unless the IDOC receives an order from the Court denying the release.
Level 4-1 Felony (formerly B or A Felony)
Individuals with a Level 4-1 Felony conviction or a B or A Felony are automatically denied CTP unless the IDOC receives an order from the Court approving the release.
Level 4-1 Requirements
Those convicted of a Level 4-1 offense must receive a court order to be accepted into the CTP. Community Corrections will make a recommendation to the Court for CTP release based upon a number of factors which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The behavior of the individual while incarcerated at IDOC.
- The living situation of the participant if released.
- Past behavior of the participant if ever on community supervision.
- The seriousness of the crime - violent and sex offenses are not recommended for placement.
- Whether or not the individual utilized the programming offered through IDOC while incarcerated.
Placement
CTP placements are usually 30 to 180 days. During this time, the CTP Case manager completes assessments and a case plan for transitional programming. Those who violate conditions of CTP are sent back to IDOC to execute the remainder of their sentence.
