Mission Statement
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office serves the community by providing timely Medico-legal death investigations in a professional and courteous manner, while ensuring the highest level of compassion, dignity and respect for the deceased and their families.

The Coroner shall investigate all deaths and is ultimately responsible for determining the manner and cause of death. The Coroner must work with local law enforcement through cooperation yet be independent when rendering a determination of the manner and cause of death.

The Coroner shall be notified of a death in the following circumstances:
(1) Has died from violence
(2) Has died by casualty
(3) Has died when apparently good health
(4) Has died in an apparently suspicious, unusual, or unnatural circumstance
(5) Has been found deceased
(6) Hospitalized less than 24 hours
